Welcome to our Governors’ section.
Moseley Primary School has recently reconstituted its Governing Board to create an efficient body that knows the work of the school well.
The committee structure has been adapted so that all members of the Board has the same overview of all areas of the school’s work.
Meetings happen later in the evening so that attendance levels are high and the structure of each meeting enables time for Governors to investigate an evidence trail of an issue in the school to dramatically reduce reliance on information being shared by School Leaders.
This new model has enabled Governors to better hold the school to account and to have a tangible impact on the future direction of the school.
My name is Jan McGranaghan, and I am Co-Chair of Moseley Governors. For the twenty years before I retired, I was Head of Art at Sidney Stringer CTC and then Lutterworth College. Prior to becoming a teacher, I was a civil servant working for the Manpower Services Commission. I have a BA(Hons) in Graphic Design and a master’s in art education and Practice and have always had a passion for art. I have been honoured to be able to pass on my passion, knowledge and skills to students throughout my teaching career. Now that I am retired, I am pleased to be able to continue to develop my interest in children’s education by serving as a school governor, firstly at Tiverton Special School and now at Moseley.
My name is Dawn Ablitt, and I am a co-opted Governor of Moseley. I am a qualified primary school teacher and taught at a school in Coventry for 10 years before moving on to become an owner and director of a large Coventry children’s nursery. I have been managing the nursery for the past 13 years and am passionate about Early Years education. In my role as a nursery owner, I have acquired a vast array of people and business skills, in particular, employment and financial related matters.
My name is Jess Roberts, and I am a Co-opted Governor of Moseley. I have a B.Sc. (Hons) in Marine Geography and a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design. My professional background is in primary education, having been a primary school teacher for six years and an art specialist teacher for the last two years. Prior to teaching, I was a Project Coordinator for a self-advocacy charity supporting people with learning disabilities in Oxfordshire. It has been a privilege and joy to teach and advocate for the arts and education. I have been fortunate enough to pursue my own art outside of teaching – a recent highlight has been providing illustrations for the latest ‘Made in Coventry’ book by Aaron Ashmore. In my spare time, I am a keen hockey player and play for a local club as well as serve as a committee member in my role as Ladies 1s Team Captain.
My name is James Kelly, and I am honoured to serve as a Co-opted Governor of Moseley. I hold a BA (Hons) in Music from Trinity College Dublin, a PGCE in Music, and an MEd in Transforming Practice from Homerton College, University of Cambridge. My professional background is in music education, and over the past seven years, I have worked in both the state and independent sectors.
Currently, I am the Head of Pre-Prep and Junior School Music at an independent school in the Midlands. I am deeply passionate about the transformative role that music and the arts can play in education, and I believe strongly in their ability to enrich the lives of students and foster creativity within our schools.
I feel privileged to share my expertise and enthusiasm, supporting primary education in Coventry through my role as a school governor. It is a joy to contribute to shaping the future of young learners and promoting the arts as an integral part of their education.
My name is Peter Blair; a co-opted governor for Moseley Primary School. My background in construction lends its assistance to the school in an advisory capacity around maintenance and construction costs, as well as in a Health & Safety capacity.
I was first brought on board whilst leading the new staff room build in early 2016 and ever since have been called upon when someone gets a questionable or fantastical idea about what next to do in school. I have family both in school and working in school; if you ever meet my Tipsy be sure to tell her I said ‘BISCUITS’.
I joined Moseley Primary School as a co-opted governor in September 2024. I am currently a Regulatory Manager within the Civil Service, where my role includes managing projects and budgets, developing policies and procedures and handling complaints. I previously worked for the Exam Regulator, Ofqual and have 18 years’ experience of working in SEN and Disability for 2 local councils. I live in Coventry with my husband and have two adult daughters and my elderly dog.
